Teysa Karlov

📖 How to build Teysa Karlov

Teysa Karlov is a four-mana legendary Human Advisor whose first ability doubles certain triggers: if a creature dying causes a triggered ability of a permanent you control to trigger, that ability triggers an additional time. Her second ability gives your creature tokens vigilance and lifelink, so a token army can attack without tapping out its defense and gain life as it fights. The game plan is to flood the board with tokens, let them die or trade, and collect doubled value from every death.

Build around creature token makers and permanents with death-triggered abilities, since those are what her doubling and token keywords reward. Sacrifice outlets and other ways to make creatures die fit the plan. From the provided list, Toxic Deluge and Feed the Swarm both put creature death into play, while Reanimate can bring dead creatures back to the battlefield. Smothering Tithe, Phyrexian Arena, and Deadly Rollick round out the Orzhov color identity.

Teysa does little on her own. Her doubling needs creature deaths and death-triggered permanents to matter, and her token bonus only helps creature tokens, not your nontoken creatures. Her body is a legendary creature that opponents can answer with Swords to Plowshares or Path to Exile. Be careful with sweepers like Toxic Deluge, which can wipe out your own tokens along with the opposing board.
