📖 How to build Selvala, Explorer Returned

Selvala, Explorer Returned is a three-mana Selesnya creature whose tap ability, Parley, can be activated at instant speed. Each player reveals the top card of their library. For each nonland card you reveal, you add {G} and gain 1 life, and then each player draws a card. The game plan is to turn card advantage into green mana and life, then use that mana on the same turn, since it only comes from activating Parley.

Build around ramp that helps you cast larger threats with the extra mana. Cultivate, Farseek, Rampant Growth, Nature's Lore, Kodama's Reach, Three Visits, Birds of Paradise, and Llanowar Elves all fit the colors. Add interaction such as Swords to Plowshares, Path to Exile, and Beast Within, and consider Heroic Intervention to protect Selvala.

Watch the symmetry of the draw: each player draws, so Selvala also helps opponents refill their hands. Parley is random, so lands produce nothing and results vary from turn to turn. Selvala also taps to activate, so it needs to survive on the battlefield to keep generating value.
