Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord

📖 How to build Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord

Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord turns creature deaths into power and pressure. It gets +1/+1 for each creature card in your graveyard, so it grows as your creatures die. For {1}{B}{G} and the sacrifice of another creature, you can make each opponent lose life equal to that creature's power. The game plan is to feed creatures into the graveyard and sacrifice them for steady drain while Jarad grows. If Jarad dies, you can sacrifice a Swamp and a Forest to return it from your graveyard to your hand.

Build around cards that fill your graveyard, provide sacrifice fodder, and add mana. Ramp such as Cultivate, Farseek, Rampant Growth, Kodama's Reach, and Nature's Lore helps you reach the {1}{B}{G} activation quickly, while Birds of Paradise and Llanowar Elves add cheap bodies to sacrifice. Dark Ritual can accelerate your mana, and Reanimate can return creatures to the battlefield. Beast Within is a flexible removal option.

Watch the mana: BBGG is a demanding cost, and the recursion ability requires both a Swamp and a Forest to sacrifice. Sacrificing creatures costs board presence, and the drain only equals each creature's power, so small creatures deal little damage. Jarad starts small until creatures hit your graveyard, so the early turns can be slow.
