Etali, Primal Storm

📖 How to build Etali, Primal Storm

Etali, Primal Storm turns each attack into a card advantage engine. Whenever Etali attacks, the top card of each player's library is exiled, and you may cast any number of the spells among those cards without paying their mana costs. A single attack can therefore produce free spells from your opponents' decks as well as your own, letting you deploy several spells in one turn without spending mana on them.

Build around the attack trigger with cards that help Etali connect and that make good use of free spells. Cheap, flexible spells such as Lightning Bolt, Abrade, and Chaos Warp are natural targets for this kind of casting, while Faithless Looting can help you filter your hand toward the cards you want. Deflecting Swat, Impact Tremors, and Professional Face-Breaker are other options for supporting the attack plan. Blasphemous Act and Big Score fit a deck that wants to manage the board and get extra value from its resources.

Be careful, because Etali does nothing unless it attacks, so any removal or blockers that stop the attack also stop the trigger. Only spells can be cast from the exiled cards, so any exiled lands are simply lost. The trigger also exiles the top card of every library, including your opponents', so you may give them cards as well as yourself. Etali is a creature, so it remains exposed to the same answers as any other threat.
