Doc Aurlock, Grizzled Genius

📖 How to build Doc Aurlock, Grizzled Genius

Doc Aurlock, Grizzled Genius is a two-mana Simic commander that makes spells cheaper when you cast them from somewhere other than your hand. Any spell cast from your graveyard or from exile costs {2} less, and plotting cards from your hand also costs {2} less. The plan is to build a graveyard-focused deck that gets extra use out of cards in those zones, while Doc keeps the cost of doing so low.

Build around cards that let you cast spells from your graveyard or from exile, and add plot cards to take advantage of the second ability. Since the discount only helps once you have the right spells available, fill out the deck with ramp such as Cultivate, Farseek, Nature's Lore, Rampant Growth and Birds of Paradise. Counterspell and Rhystic Study give the blue half of the deck some interaction and card flow.

Doc's discount only applies to spells, and only when they are cast from the graveyard or exile, so the deck needs enough enablers to make him matter. He is also a two-mana creature, so he can be removed easily. Heroic Intervention is a good way to protect him.
